Write for Magazines E-Course
Earn income doing what you love!
I love my life! We writers make money doing what inspires us, are in charge of our schedules, and don’t have to deal with unreasonable bosses and crazy co-workers. Want a life like this? Then sign up for this 8-week e-course on breaking into magazines, where you’ll get secrets and shortcuts from a highly successful freelancer on how to become a sought-after freelance writer.
Next session starts Monday, July 19, 2010 - Sign up now before it’s full!
There is limited space in the Gold and Premium versions of the class.
If you want to write for magazines but don’t know how to get started — or if you need some motivation to get you going — this course is for you. In eight weekly lessons, I’ll walk you through:
- Coming up with a salable idea
- Finding markets that would be interested in your idea
- Finding the right editors to send your idea to
- Interviewing people for the query letter (the proposal that sells the editor on your idea and yourself as a writer)
- Writing a winning query letter
- Getting your query out the door!
Each lesson includes an assignment. You can do much of the assignments after work, during your lunch break, on weekends — whenever YOU have the time. The best part is, you can use the lessons you learn in this course over and over again. The more queries you write and send, the better the chances that you’ll get published!
The basic course includes eight weekly lessons and the premium course includes personalized e-mail support as well (I set aside Wednesdays and Fridays to answer e-mails). I am here to guide you through the program and to answer any questions you might have.
For more details on how the course works, the course schedule, and my teaching philosophy, read the E-Course FAQ.
Why Get Published?
I have to tell you: Working at home as a writer is one sweet deal. I have a ten-minute commute from my bed to my office (yes, I rent an outside office), I set my own schedule, I support my family very comfortably, my work is fun and mentally stimulating, and I get the thrill of knowing that thousands — even millions — of people are seeing my name in print every month. I work fewer than 40 hours per week and spend the rest of my time pursuing hobbies, doing volunteer work, traveling, reading, and hanging out with my friends.
I got all this without any special education or training — and if I can do it, you probably can, too.
My Magazine Writing Credentials
I’ve written for more than 120 magazines since I started freelancing in 1997, including such top-notch publications as Health, USA Weekend, Family Circle, Fitness, Psychology Today, Parenting, Wired, Business Start-Ups, Men’s Fitness, and Woman’s Day. I’m co-author of The Renegade Writer: A Totally Unconventional Guide to Freelance Writing Success and The Renegade Writer’s Query Letters That Rock.
So far, students of this course (which launched in June 2005) have landed assignments from Writer’s Digest, Woman’s Day, Rhode Island Home, Living & Design, For Me, Body & Brain, Michigan Out-Of-Doors, MyBusiness, Pizza Today, E: The Environmental Magazine, Black Health, Cottage Living, and other magazines.
Want to get some of this for yourself? I’m running a contest to give away a free spot in my July 19 Basic class. Just send me an e-mail with “I want to write for magazines!” in the subject line by noon ET on July 12, 2010, and you’ll be entered into a random drawing.
